Java telnet Client for the Cryosphere

If your browser is Java-enabled, you can now connect to the Cryosphere using only your browser with the Java Telnet Client below (applet courtesy of Matthias L. Jugel and Marcus Meißner).

Read these usage instructions for the Java Telnet Client Applet. While we wish you to enjoy the game using the telnet client, the administrators of Cryosphere are not responsible for any damage to your character that is a result of not knowing how to use the applet.

  • Be aware that as you enter your game password, it might not be displayed on-screen (but is still being entered, type carefully, or use the input field at the bottom of the applet).

  • The telnet applet supports ANSI colour, and for full enjoyment of Cryosphere we recommend you take advantage of the colour system! Type COLOUR once you enter the game to turn colour on for your character.

  • You can use the scroll bar on the right side of the applet screen to scroll back a certain amount of lines. You will need to return the scroll to the bottom to resume viewing your interaction with the game. (Be careful of what might happen to you if you're not watching! ie: you might be attacked, etc.)

  • If the telnet applet stops responding, it could be one of several things: You could be experiencing "lag" between your host and Cryosphere's host (there is usually nothing to be done for this except wait); OR you might have been disconnected or lost your link... try refreshing the page and reconnecting to the Cryosphere.

  • If you use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the cursor in the applet window around, your input to the MUD will not be understood and the display will probably appear messy until the lines scroll to the bottom again (in other words, don't mess with your arrow keys). Just press return or enter to clear if you've moved the cursor accidentally.

  • The java telnet client, like any other program, is prone to its own glitches, failures and/or crashes. If you experience problems with the display or connection, you might simply try disconnecting/reconnecting and/or closing down your web browser and then re-starting it.

  • When you load this page, the applet will load and connect to the Cryosphere automatically. Depending on your computer and Internet connection speed, the applet may take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute to load, so be patient.
